The current values in this table are HEM Motor’s own technical values for the three-phase electric motors sold on our website; they are not a rule of thumb or another manufacturer’s average. Each row links to the page of the corresponding product.
What the table shows
- At 1500 rpm, the current per kW falls as the power increases: on the 0.25 kW motor it is 2.64 A/kW, on the 7.5 kW motor 1.91 A/kW, on the 315 kW motor 1.67 A/kW. On small motors, the “kW × 2” rule of thumb understates the current.
- At the same power, current rises as speed falls: because 6-pole (1000 rpm) motors have a lower power factor, they draw more current than a 2-pole motor of the same kW.
- At start-up, the motor draws 4.0–8.3 times its rated current (the Is/In column in the table). This value is taken into account when selecting fuses and contactors.
- Our aluminium and cast iron frame motors have the same electrical values at the same power and speed; the difference is the frame material.
How to read the table
- 380 / 400 / 415 V: Rated full-load current according to the mains voltage. In Turkey, the mains voltage is taken as 400 V.
- cos φ: Power factor.
- Is/In: Ratio of starting current to rated current.
- Starting current: Approximate value calculated as rated current at 400 V × Is/In.
