‹ All frequently asked questions Electric Motor Power, Current and Calculations: Frequently Asked Questions

This section explains, question by question, how much current an electric motor draws, how its power is calculated and how units are converted. The figures in the current tables are the 400 V nameplate values of the three-phase induction motors in the HEM Motor catalogue, covering 2, 4 and 6-pole models from 0.25 kW to 355 kW. In the calculation questions we state the unit and the assumption behind every formula and then give a worked example. When you are sizing a motor for a pump, a conveyor or your own machine, read the relevant question first and then compare the result with the values on your motor's nameplate; the nameplate always takes priority over a general table.

Once you have done the calculation, you can find the model with the right power and speed, with its current price, on the buy electric motors page. If you are unsure about anything, send a photo of the existing motor's nameplate and the machine details on WhatsApp; the HEM Motor team will check the power, current and connection values and suggest a suitable model from stock in İzmir/Buca.

Send the motor power, speed, mounting type and quantity on WhatsApp. If you are replacing an existing motor, you can also send a photo of its nameplate.
