To buy an electric motor you do not need to visit a shop in the city where the motor will be used; every piece of information needed to determine the right model is on the motor nameplate and on the machine. A company ordering from Istanbul, Ankara, Bursa, Kocaeli or Konya follows the same steps as a company in İzmir: model selection from the nameplate data, placing the order through the online store or via a quotation, confirming voltage and mounting before dispatch, and checking the motor on delivery. In this article we explain step by step how this process works for electric motor sales across Turkey.

The city changes, the ordering steps do not
Turkey's industrial map is very diverse and the motor demand of each region comes from different machines. Kocaeli and Bursa stand out for automotive supply industry, metalworking and plastics lines; Konya for agricultural machinery and foundry; Denizli for textiles; Gaziantep for textiles and food; Kayseri for furniture and metal; Manisa for household appliances and electronics; Eskişehir for machine building; Adana for agricultural product processing. Istanbul and Ankara host workshops and factories of every kind.
Even though the machine type changes, the information needed to choose a three-phase motor correctly is the same. So for a buyer searching for "places that sell electric motors", what really matters is not the seller's city, but whether the seller can read the nameplate data correctly and recommend the suitable model clearly. HEM Motor is headquartered in Buca, İzmir; orders are prepared with the same process regardless of the city.
Step 1: Determining the right model from a nameplate photo
The most critical stage of a remote order is passing on the data of the existing motor completely. Saying "I need a 30 horsepower motor" on the phone is not enough; there are different speeds and frames for the same power. A sharp photo of the motor nameplate without light reflection answers most questions in one go. Together with the photo, note the following:
- Power (kW or HP) and the speed on the nameplate.
- Voltage and connection: is it 230/400 V or 400/690 V? The bridge arrangement in the terminal box.
- Mounting arrangement: foot, flange or foot-and-flange; does the motor run horizontally or vertically?
- Shaft output: whether the motor is connected to the machine by a coupling, a pulley or directly by a flange.
- Type of machine and duty: how many hours a day it runs, whether it stops and starts frequently.
What does the expression "380 V motor" mean?
The market still says "380 V motor"; this is a habit left over from the old nominal supply value. Today the nominal voltage of the three-phase grid in Turkey is 400 V, and motors with 230/400 V or 400/690 V nameplates run on this grid. Which connection (star or delta) will be used is determined by the nameplate voltage of the motor and the starting method. For motors whose nameplate cannot be read, a photo of the terminal box is also requested.
Step 2: Ordering from the online store or requesting a quotation
Once the model is known, there are two routes. A standard motor with a clear power, speed and frame can be ordered directly from the online store; the product pages state the model code, rated speed, IEC frame, current and torque. Review the suitable HEM Motor models and current prices; the current price is on each product's own page.
If there are several motors, a different mounting arrangement or questions about starting, the quotation route is more appropriate. When requesting a quotation, state the address where the motor will be used and whether there are loading and unloading facilities at the delivery point, together with the invoice details; for large-frame motors this information affects the shipping plan.
The models below are examples of the power range most often asked about from different cities:
- 132S-4: 5.5 kW, 4 poles, 1,460 rpm, aluminium frame, IEC 132S, 10.7 A at 400 V, 400/690 V (Δ/Y).
- 132M-4: 7.5 kW, 4 poles, 1,460 rpm, cast iron frame, IEC 132M, 14.3 A at 400 V, 400/690 V (Δ/Y).
- 160L-4: 15 kW, 4 poles, 1,465 rpm, cast iron frame, IEC 160L, 27.3 A at 400 V, 400/690 V (Δ/Y).
You can reach our entire three-phase range on the 3-phase electric motors page.
Step 3: Confirmation before dispatch
A short confirmation before the motor leaves prevents many problems on the construction site or in the factory. We recommend that the following three points are checked in writing in the order confirmation:
| Check | What to look at |
|---|---|
| Voltage | Is the nameplate voltage suitable for the grid and the planned starting method? |
| Mounting | Are the foot/flange type and flange size the same as the existing machine? The flange size is confirmed with the order. |
| Shaft | Are the shaft diameter, length and key compatible with the coupling or pulley? Dimensions are checked from the technical drawing. |
Rather than describing shaft and flange dimensions in words, the safest way is to compare them with the frame-based 2D technical drawings. It is enough to measure the existing motor on site and put the result next to the drawing.
