The catalogue rule is clear: lifting is done only by the eyebolts on the frame, never by the shaft. The shaft and bearings are not designed to carry the motor's weight in that direction; lifting by the shaft can permanently damage the bearing housings and shaft alignment. The fan cover, terminal box and cable glands are not lifting points either.
- Check that the eyebolts are fully screwed in and sound; attach the sling as close to vertical as possible.
- The eyebolts are for the motor alone; do not lift it together with an attached pump, gearbox or base.
- Secure the motor to a pallet or crate during transport; protect the shaft end against knocks.
- Do not hammer a coupling or pulley onto the shaft; use a suitable puller or heating method.
For vertically mounted motors, the lifting and positioning arrangement may differ; see the article on vertical-mount motor selection. For shipping planning of large-frame motors, the article on logistics checks when ordering a high-power motor offers guidance.
