Three-phase electric motors are the most widely used motors in industry. In Türkiye they are often called "380 V motors", although today's nominal mains voltage is 400 V. HEM Motor's three-phase electric motors cover 0.25–355 kW in IE3, IE4 and IE5 efficiency classes.

The examples are for standard IE3 motors: 400 V, 50 Hz, IP55, class F insulation, B3 foot mounting.

  • 4 kW, 1500 rpm, aluminium frame (IE3-112M-4): 10,960.95 TL

  • 11 kW, 1500 rpm, cast-iron frame (IE3-160M-4): 25,674 TL

  • 37 kW, 1500 rpm, cast-iron frame (IE3-225S-4): 68,937 TL

Two examples at the same power show the effect of speed: a 7.5 kW aluminium-frame motor costs 15,918 TL at 3000 rpm (IE3-132S2-2) and 24,969 TL at 1000 rpm (IE3-160M-6). The low-speed motor delivers the same power with more torque, so it needs a larger frame.

Technical features of three-phase motors

  • Voltage: 230/400 V or 400/690 V. On a 400 V supply, motors up to 3 kW are connected in star and motors from 4 kW in delta.

  • Speed: 2, 4, 6 and 8 poles; about 3000, 1500, 1000 and 750 rpm at 50 Hz.

  • Protection and insulation: IP55 protection and class F (155) insulation as standard.

  • Frame: cast iron GG20; aluminium for smaller powers. Electrostatic powder coating in RAL 7012 / RAL 7024.

  • Mounting: B3, B5, B14, B34, B35 and vertical V1/V3/V5/V6/V15.

  • Speed control: suitable for use with a frequency inverter.

Single-phase or three-phase?

If a three-phase supply is available, a three-phase motor is the better choice for anything above 3 kW: at the same power it is smaller, more efficient and starts more strongly. With only a 220 V supply, single-phase electric motors from 0.18 to 5.5 kW can be used.
