What Should Be Considered When Selecting a B3 Mounted Electric Motor?
When selecting a B3 mounted electric motor, looking only at the motor power and speed is not sufficient. Especially if a new motor will be installed in place of an existing one, the body dimension, foot mounting spacing, shaft diameter, shaft length, key dimension and shaft height must definitely be checked.
Two motors with the same kW power can be manufactured in different body dimensions. For this reason, in motor replacements, the old motor's nameplate, body type and dimensions must be carefully examined. If the wrong body or wrong shaft dimension is selected, the motor may not fit the machine, the coupling alignment may be disrupted, the belt-pulley system may not work properly, or the connection holes may not match the existing frame.
The main dimensions to be considered in B3 mounted motors are as follows:
H dimension: The height of the motor shaft center from the foot base.
A dimension: The lateral distance between the foot mounting holes.
B dimension: The longitudinal distance between the foot mounting holes.
D dimension: The motor shaft diameter.
E dimension: The motor shaft extension length.
K dimension: The diameter of the foot mounting hole.
Key dimension: The dimension of the keyway on the shaft, and it is important for the pulley, coupling or gearbox connection.

Shaft Dimensions Suitable for the Turkish Market in 315 kW and 355 kW Motors
In high-power electric motors, shaft dimensions must be checked more carefully than in standard small and medium-power motors. Especially in the Turkish market, a 355 body and a Ø100 mm shaft diameter are commonly used in 315 kW and 355 kW 1500 rpm B3 mounted electric motors.
For this reason, in 315 kW or 355 kW motor replacements, information such as "315 kW 1500 rpm" or "355 kW 1500 rpm" alone is not sufficient. The existing motor's body type, shaft diameter, shaft length, key dimension, foot mounting holes and shaft height must definitely be checked.
